Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an empirically validated treatment model used process the root cause of current emotional distress. In EMDR, clients will work alongside their provider to identify memories and experiences that have led to distressful thoughts and feelings. Once these memories are identified, EMDR uses bilateral simulation (left to right movement through tapping, sound or eye movement) to reprocess the memory in order for the brain to heal. Although EMDR was originally created to treat PTSD, it has since expanded to work with those struggling from an array of mental health difficulties and diagnosis.
